Went to the cinema today with the wife to catch this anticipated film. It opened yesterday
but Good Friday seemed to be a better time to catch
this flick.

The cinema was nearly empty. We went to the mall in Lower Hutt to see it and
everything was closed apart from the cinema (as is the law). It freaked my
wife out, she had no idea regarding Easter. LOL.

Then the movie started.

300 10m

The beginning explained how a Spartan is raised. It was a fantastic opening.

But overall, I was kind of disappointed. The fight scenes were amazing, the
eye candy was amazing and all digital. The acting was great and the storyline was ...
well I guess based on truth. But when you break it down, it is a story of treachery and pride.

There's a good secondary storyline regarding the captain and son and regrets.
Hatred plays a major role in this film as well.

While they are fighting, at home the Queen wants to ask the counsel to send
the entire army, but there is a politician she needs to convince to
support her against the counsel. He runs the council, pretty much.
(NOTE: The counsel scene is THE best scene in the entire movie)

117 minutes did pass very quickly. And although I did enjoy this movie, I
think the hype will / has damaged it. High expectations and all that.

Now that I have seen this movie, I notice the adverts for it have stopped.
Were they only after my cash?
lol!

Gotta agree with you on some points. The council scene was almost the best scene for me too, thanks to the performance of the Queen, who was the only person in the film who turned in a good job. Everyone else sucked, particularly David Wenhams' grating voiceover.
The fight scenes were MTV in their delivery, but otherwise, this was bloated, with a cliched story and terrible dialouge. I couldnt wait for it to end. It wanted to be Gladiator but was simply 'GladItsOver'.
Sin City was much more enjoyable....
